Meet Our Board

Leadership Within Montgomery County Medical Society

Leadership in the Montgomery County Medical Society consists of an elected Board of Directors, including a President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and three Directors at Large. Additionally, the Chief of Staff of Kettering  Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital, and Dayton Children’s Hospital also have a designated seated on the Board.   Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County and the WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine are invited to appoint a representative to serve as an ex-officio member on the Board.  The Board of Directors typically meets five times throughout the year as well as providing support to other activities/events.  If you are currently a member of MCMS and would like an opportunity to serve the Society, please contact us via this website. 

John Corker, M.D.
President

Dr. Corker is committed to providing competent, compassionate care for his patients, and to strengthening humanism and empathy in the practice of medicine. These interests are highlighted in his award-winning medical talk show, Radio Rounds ™, previously featured on Dayton NPR affiliate 91.3 WYSO and airing to its international audience online from 2009-2018.   Dr. Corker is a proud graduate of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, and completed his Emergency Medicine training in the busiest ER in America at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX. He spent the 2012-2013 academic year completing a health policy fellowship with the American Medical Association (AMA) in Washington DC, and is honored to serve his patients and colleagues in Montgomery County through this Medical Society.

Thomas Proctor, M.D.
First Vice President

Dr. Proctor is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County.   A former high school teacher at Miami Valley School, he pursued a career in medicine through Wright State University School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Wright State in 1996.  He joined Emergency Medicine Specialists, Inc., in 1996 and is a senior partner , serving as President and CEO (2012-20).  He has served patients in the Kettering Health Network his entire career, and has served numerous administrative roles on the Medical Staff, including Chief of Staff for the Kettering Medical Center System (2018-2019). He serves on the Board of Directors for the Wright State Academy of Medicine as well as Montgomery County Medical Society.

Asheesh Bothra, M.D.
Second Vice President

Dr. Bothra practices hospital medicine and is affiliated with Kettering Health Network in Dayton, OH. He graduated medical school from S P Medical College in Bikaner, India, and did his residency at West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh. He earned his MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He worked at the University of Pittsburgh for many years before moving to his current position in Dayton. He has served as the hospital’s Medical Director of Cerner at UPMC and Co-Medical Director of an LTAC. He holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.

He is the chair of utilization management for three hospitals of KHN and the vice president and board member of his multispecialty group of about 85 providers. He also serves on the alumni board for the Kelley School of Business and the Capstone review board for ACP’s Certificate in Physician Leadership. He also has a strong business background: he helped run his family’s furniture business and found his own software training company during high school. He has been part of a novel cryptocurrency venture aiming to create the first stable coin with SEC approval. He also serves as the Treasurer for the Miami Valley Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. He has served as a delegate to OSMA and feels honored to serve his patients and colleagues as part of the MCMS.

Ricardo Buenaventura, M.D.
Immediate Past President

Dr. Buenaventura completed his medical degree at Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans before finishing his anesthesiology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.  After his residency, Dr. Buenaventura served on active duty in the United States Air Force as a staff anesthesiologist and pain management physician at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center in Ohio. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Dr. Buenaventura completed a one-year pain medicine fellowship at the Ohio State University Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  This advanced training provided additional experience in advanced pain management techniques and the treatment of cancer pain. 

Dr. Buenaventura is president of the Ohio Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and involved in advocacy for pain management at local and national levels to help benefit all patients suffering from chronic pain.

Gary LeRoy, M.D.

On November 1st Dr. Gary LeRoy will become the Senior Vice President for Diplomate Engagement of the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. LeRoy is an associate professor of Family Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (Dayton, Ohio). He served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Admissions for 14 years (2008-2022).  Dr. LeRoy is a native Daytonian, received his undergraduate (1982) and M.D. (1988) degrees from Wright State University and completed his residency at Miami Valley Hospital (Dayton, Ohio).  He completed a fellowship at Michigan State University in 1992. Dr. LeRoy’s major affiliations include serving on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dayton Levitt Pavilion, East End Community Center, WestCare Ohio, and The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company.  He is also a past board chair of The Dayton Foundation, Public Health Dayton/Montgomery County, and Hospice of Dayton. He serves as the Chief Medical Consultant for the City of Dayton Schools.  Dr. LeRoy is the Past-President and Board Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also an active member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (Past President), and the Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society (Vice President).

Dr. LeRoy is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Golden Key Honor Society-Wright State University Chapter.  He has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Most Positive Physicians.  He has been honored as the Miami Valley Family Physician of the Year, and the National Registry of Who’s Who in America.  Dr. LeRoy received the Wright State University Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award, the Dean’s Awarded to the Outstanding medical school graduate, a Certificate of Recognition by the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate, the American Association of Medical Colleges Humanism in Medicine Award, the Outstanding Volunteerism Award from Reach Out of Montgomery County, the Humanism in Medicine Award-Gem City Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Society, Dayton’s Top Ten African American Male Award, the National Council of Community and Justice Humanism Award, the American Medical Student Association Golden Apple Teaching Excellence Award, Greater Dayton African American Skyscraper Recognition, and both the Educator of the Year and Philanthropist of the Year awards from the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He is also an award-winning book author – Quotes From The Edge of Nowhere (2020).

In addition, Dr. LeRoy is a board-certified family physician, providing comprehensive medical care at Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton, a federally qualified health center. Dr LeRoy’s practice is at the East Dayton Health Center where served as medical director from 1998-2008. He has provided health care services for the Dayton community for 30 years.

Caroline Kennebeck, M.D.

Caroline Kennebeck MD, a native Californian, moved to Dayton, OH after 15 years in the US Air Force as an OB/GYN in 2005.  She graduated from UC Berkeley and then USUHS in Bethesda, MD for medical school. Caroline joined Far Hills OB/GYN, Inc. and began teaching medical students and residents in the area. She volunteers as a clinical associate professor at Wright State University; some of the residents she taught are now her awesome partners in their independent group practice. 

She is now the president of Far Hills OB/GYN and a past president of the Dayton OB/GYN Society. She currently serves as secretary of the Montgomery County Medical Society, and in her spare time enjoys family time, skiing, biking, travel, and chocolate consumption.

Gerri Creel
Executive Director

A native Ohioan, Ms. Creel earned a BS degree from Kent State University, and was previously a special education teacher with Kettering City Schools. She has been employed as Communications Director of Montgomery County Medical Society since 1983, and was appointed Executive Director in March 2021.
