DAYTON PHARMACEUTICAL DISCOUNT OPTIONS
What is challenging for most physicians in their private offices today is the ability to keep up with information about discounted pharmaceutical offerings. Often the physician learns about discount options at the same time as the consumer, on late night TV! Whether its sample medications, discount Rx cards, pharmaceutical manufacturing assistance programs, voucher programs, coupons, or accessing a local charitable pharmacy, someone needs to keep our physicians informed on this evolving pharmaceutical discount industry. Here is our best attempt to summarize what is currently available for the healthcare consumer pharmaceutical needs in the Dayton area.
Discount Cards:
National networks of county governments distribute these drug discount cards, saving approximately 20% off the non-discounted drug. Most discount cards are not eligible with any other insurance plan or on $4 discounted drugs. Discount cards are located throughout the Dayton area at government offices.
· Ohio Buckeye Rx Discount Cards are through Ohio Rx http://www.ohiobestrx.org/
· AAA discount Rx cards (http://www2.caremark.com/aaa/)
· Montgomery County Discount Cards http://www.mcohio.org/services/jobandfamily/naco/
Pharmaceutical Coupons: Keep your eye out for the drug representatives who would rather hand you a tablet of coupons verses driving around with boxes of sample medications in their trunks. For the consumer, have them watch for their medication advertised in magazines, TV commercials or brochures that offer “free” first time prescription offers. http://www.ohiodrugcard.com/index.php
Pharmacy Manufacturing Assistance Programs (PMAP): If your office does not have a social worker who is “online” with PMAP application processing, then use the web site http://www.needymeds.org/ to obtain eligibility forms from each drug manufacturing company. It’s a quick look up process and user friendly site. Remember on average it takes 4-8 weeks for processing PMAP applications!
Voucher Prescription Programs: these programs are specific to funding low income, disease specific assistance, age eligible (senior) assistance, in and around the Dayton area. Call the offices listed below for more details
Unified Health Services (Script Services): 937-220-6600 located in the Job Center Mall

Although most chain pharmacies are offering pharmaceutical discounts ($4 plans), be sure to offer local independent pharmacies such as Clarks, Ridgeway, Bettmans, and Vic Cassanos, as many of these stores have developed new discount pricing on generic prescriptions.
Other notable coupon web sites allow for printing over the counter discounts coupons or 10% off prescription drugs not on any insurance plan. http://print.coupons.com/couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=12812&zid=dl89&nid=10&bid=alk0804190800c44016a7125410
